Annotating and adding notes in books

Annotating and adding notes in books

Montblanc Digital Paper provides a seamless way to engage with your eBooks beyond just reading. Whether you want to highlight important passages, jot down thoughts, or attach detailed notes, the platform offers intuitive tools to make your reading interactive and meaningful.

Writing and editing directly on the page

Just like with Notebooks, Quick Notes, and PDFs, you can use the writing, editing, and selection tools directly on your eBooks. This allows you to:

  • Underline or circle key text using your preferred writing instrument from the toolbar.
  • Erase or modify annotations effortlessly with multiple eraser modes.
  • Move or adjust your writing using the selection tool.
Tip: For best precision, use the Digital Pen in combination with zoom for finer annotations.

Adding notes

Highlighting and attaching notes are powerful ways to personalize your reading experience:

  1. Highlighting text:
    • Select the note icon in the toolbar.
    • Drag your pen across the section of text you want to highlight.
    • Once you lift the pen, the highlighted area becomes active.
  2. Adding notes:
    • After highlighting, a note pop-up automatically appears.
    • Write your thoughts in the note field using the Digital Pen.
    • Notes are tied to the highlighted text, ensuring your annotations remain contextually relevant.
Note: Unlike comments in PDFs, notes in eBooks remain connected to a highlighted section rather than a fixed page position.

Managing notes
  • Accessing notes: Tap on any highlighted section to open or close the corresponding note.
  • Editing notes: Once open, use the icons in the top-right corner of the note to edit or delete.
  • Tracking changes: At the bottom of each note, you can see the timestamp of your last saved edit.
Tip: Use notes for long-form reflections or summaries — they can be as short or as detailed as you want.

Why use annotations and notes?

Annotations and notes transform passive reading into active engagement. They help you:

  • Retain information more effectively.
  • Organize your thoughts for future reference.
  • Personalize your reading journey without altering the original text.
Warning: Deleting a highlighted section will also remove the attached note. Make sure to back up important notes if needed.
