Working with books

Working with books

Montblanc Digital Paper is not just a tool for writing—it’s also a convenient way to bring your entire digital library with you. With the ability to import, read, and annotate eBooks, the device transforms into a dedicated space for both thoughtful reading and active engagement with text. By default, several pre-installed Books are available on your device (provided you have a Montblanc Cloud Account), and you can always upload more of your own.

Book covers

On the home screen, each Book you add to your device is represented with its cover, making it easy to distinguish between different titles at a glance.

  • Pre-defined covers: Any Book you upload will display a cover embedded in the file. This cannot be changed, as it is inherent to the stored file information.
  • Library organization: Covers give your library a more natural “bookshelf” feel, allowing you to visually navigate your collection instead of relying on file names.
Tip: Organize your uploaded Books carefully before transferring them to Digital Paper. Since covers cannot be altered, naming files clearly beforehand helps maintain an orderly digital library.

Reading books

Once you select a Book, you can begin reading immediately. The Digital Paper provides a distraction-free environment designed for deep focus.

  • Natural reading experience: eBooks open in full screen, allowing you to immerse yourself in the text without unnecessary clutter.
  • Adjusting reading: While details will be explained in a dedicated guide, you can briefly adjust reading preferences, such as zooming into sections or rotating pages, to better suit your preference.
Note: eBook formats may behave differently depending on the file type. Features like adjustable font size or reflow depend on whether the Book is in PDF format or another supported format.

Writing & annotations

Digital Paper makes it possible to interact directly with your eBooks in ways that go beyond simple reading:

  • Direct writing: You can jot down notes or underline text directly on the page using the writing tools. The toolbar gives you access to various pen styles, erasers, and selection options.
  • Highlighting: Important text can be highlighted for easy reference later.
  • Notes: In addition to writing directly on the page, you can create linked notes that remain attached to specific portions of highlighted text. Notes expand into a pop-up where you can add more detailed reflections.

At the bottom of every Book is a navigation bar (hidden by default). Tapping on the page number reveals it, offering quick movement across your document.

  • Page jumping: Use your pen or finger to scroll, or tap directly on a page number to jump.
  • Continuous scrolling: Navigate smoothly through the text without breaking focus.

Page overview

In addition to the navigation bar, you can access a Page overview, which presents a thumbnail grid of your Book’s pages. This is especially useful for quickly scanning through large texts, locating specific diagrams, or returning to a previously marked section.

Tip: Combine the navigation bar and Page overview for faster orientation—use the bar to jump to a section, then the overview to visually confirm where you want to land.

Supported formats

Montblanc Digital Paper only supports Books in .epub file formats. Additionally, the books added to the device must not be DRM-protected in order to be accessible.
