Your Digital Paper, the Companion App, and the Montblanc Cloud are designed with security at the core. Whether you are taking notes, reviewing sensitive documents, or syncing files across devices, your data is protected at every step.
All content, including notebooks, PDFs, annotations, and documents, is fully end-to-end encrypted. This means that your data is encrypted directly on your device before it leaves it and can only be decrypted by you. Not even Montblanc can access the contents of your files.
This encryption applies to every interaction with your data, whether you are backing up files to the cloud, sharing them, or receiving files from other sources.
Your Montblanc Cloud Account is secured by a verified email and a password that you set. This login protects access to your personal notebooks, files, and account settings, whether you are using the Digital Paper device, the Companion App, or the web interface.
Your password must meet the following criteria to ensure security:
You can change your password at any time via the app settings. Changing the password requires email verification to confirm the request.
In addition to the cloud login, you can set a passcode directly on your Digital Paper. This extra layer of protection ensures that even if someone gains physical access to your device, your files remain secure. The passcode is required whenever the device wakes from sleep or rest mode.
To maintain a secure experience:
All your data is stored securely on servers located in Germany. Montblanc only retains your data when necessary and does not transfer, sell, or share it with third parties.
Deleting your Montblanc Cloud Account or data associated with your Digital Paper permanently erases all related content. No backups or shadow copies are kept, giving you full control over your information.
Montblanc has implemented rigorous cybersecurity practices. A dedicated in-house team ensures secure coding and follows market standards for software development.
Systems undergo penetration testing to identify and address vulnerabilities. Ongoing automated and manual security checks are performed as part of the product lifecycle. A structured incident management process ensures a 24/7 response in the unlikely event of a security issue, and affected users are notified immediately.
Native protections, including firewalls and system-level safeguards, prevent unauthorized access and scan for malicious files. Security updates are issued proactively whenever vulnerabilities are discovered.
Note: Always ensure that your Digital Paper and Companion App are updated regularly to receive the latest security protections.
