Writing instruments

Montblanc Digital Paper offers a versatile set of writing instruments designed to deliver a natural and customizable writing experience. Accessible through the writing toolbar, these tools allow you to create, annotate, and highlight content across Notebooks, Quick Notes, PDFs, and eBooks.

Tools

Choose from several writing styles:

  • Fountain pen: The Fountain Pen delivers smooth, fluid strokes with dynamic line variation that changes based on pressure. It gives handwriting an elegant, expressive feel—perfect for journaling or signing documents with flair.

  • Ballpoint pen: The Ballpoint Pen produces even, consistent lines, just like a traditional everyday pen. It’s practical and clean, ideal for note-taking or writing that requires structure and legibility.

  • Calligraphy pen: The Calligraphy Pen mimics the dramatic flair of calligraphy, with angular strokes and noticeable contrast between thick and thin lines. It adds an artistic touch to titles, headers, or stylized writing.

  • Fineliner: The Fineliner creates precise, sharp lines without pressure sensitivity. It’s light and controlled, great for underlining, sketching diagrams, or making clean, visual notes.

  • Pencil: The Pencil mode replicates the texture of graphite on paper. Lines are softer with slight variations, offering a natural, forgiving writing experience well-suited for shading or sketching ideas.

  • Highlighter: Lastly, the Highlighter lays down broad, semi-transparent strokes that overlay other text. It behaves like a real highlighter, best used to mark key phrases, tasks, or details in your notes.

Each writing instrument is designed to give you flexibility and a writing experience that suits your personal style or task at hand.

Writing instruments can be customized by color (black, gray, white) and thickness (broad, medium, fine). These settings apply across all files. Try combining different pens for creative or structured notes.

Eraser options

Located next to the Pen icon, the Eraser offers multiple modes:

  • Eraser: Erase with precision with a customizable thickness.

  • Erase shape: Circle an area to erase everything inside it.

  • Erase all: Clears all handwritten content from the current page.
Note: Only handwritten content can be erased. Template lines and embedded PDF or eBook text cannot be deleted.

Tool selection indicator

A line beneath the icon indicates the current active tool. Ensure the pen is underlined when writing. The Digital Pen buttons can also switch between pen and eraser if configured in settings.

This setup ensures a smooth and intuitive writing experience, making Montblanc Digital Paper an ideal device for note-taking, sketching, and document annotation.

Digital Pen features

The Digital Pen supports:

  • Pressure sensitivity: Harder taps create bolder strokes.
  • Tilt support: Adjusting the pen angle alters the line width and texture, particularly in pencil mode.
