Writing instruments

Writing instruments

Your Digital Pen gives you access to a range of writing instruments to suit your style, task, and preference. Each mode mimics a real writing instrument, from classic fountain pens to highlighters.

Where to find writing instruments

You can access all writing instruments by opening the pen icon from the toolbar while working in a Notebook, Quick Note, PDF, or eBook.

  1. Once open, select your preferred pen type, line thickness, and color (black, gray, white).
  2. To close the pen menu, tap the screen once with your pen.
Tip: Your current selection remains active across documents until you change it again.

Available writing instruments

Fountain pen

Emulates the classic ink flow of a fountain pen. It offers a slight variation in stroke width depending on pressure and movement. Great for elegant notes or handwriting that mimics the feel of ink on paper.

Ballpoint pen

Provides a clean and even line — ideal for everyday writing, annotations, and checklists. Smooth and steady with consistent width.

Fineliner

Produces a sharper, more technical line — perfect for diagrams or precise notes. Slightly firmer feel than the fountain pen.

Calligraphy pen

Adds flair with stylistic variation in line thickness. Great for headers, decorative writing, or stylized notes.

Pencil

Mimics a soft pencil texture. Useful for sketching, brainstorming, or anything where you want a more natural, hand-drawn look.

Highlighter

Used to mark text or add emphasis. Applies a translucent overlay that doesn’t interfere with handwritten or printed text. Available in black, gray, and white, with varying line thickness.

Eraser

Accessible separately from the pen menu, but acts as a writing mode when selected. Let's you erase handwritten content with either standard strokes, shape outlines, or “erase all.”

Pressure sensitivity and tilt support

Your Digital Pen is designed to respond to natural writing gestures:

  • Pressure sensitivity: The harder you press, the bolder the line, especially noticeable in fountain pen, pencil, and calligraphy modes.
  • Tilt support: Adjusting the pen's angle changes the width and texture of your stroke, particularly in pencil mode. This allows for realistic shading and dynamic lines.

Tip: Try combining pressure and tilt to create more expressive and personal notes.
