Using the Companion App and Web App

Using the Companion App and Web App

Once your Montblanc Digital Paper is connected to the Montblanc Cloud, you can access your documents from anywhere using the Companion App (mobile) or Web App (desktop). This article explains how to use both platforms to view, upload, and download files, so your ideas stay with you wherever you go.

What you can do in the Companion and Web App

After logging in with your Montblanc Cloud Account, you can:
  • View your synced files
  • Upload supported documents (PDFs, eBooks) to your device
  • Download notebooks and PDFs with annotations from your device
  • Check cloud storage usage

Note: You cannot edit files from the Companion or Web App; all edits must be made on Digital Paper.

Uploading files to your Digital Paper
You can upload supported files (PDFs and eBooks only) via the app:
  1. Open the Companion App or Web App
  1. Sign in with your Montblanc Cloud credentials
  1. Tap the upload icon
  1. Choose a supported file from your phone or computer
  1. The file will appear on your Digital Paper shortly after upload

Note: Files must be under 100MB and will be scanned for viruses before upload.

Downloading files from your device
From the Companion or Web App, you are also able to download your documents, including annotations, directly to your external device. Please note:
  • Notebooks and PDFs are downloaded as PDF files, including your handwritten notes
  • eBooks cannot be exported as PDFs and are downloaded in their original format

To download a file:

  1. Open the file preview in the app
  1. Tap or click the download icon
  1. The file is saved locally on your device

Storage overview

Digital Paper provides you with free access to 1GB of Cloud storage. Please note that Cloud storage info is only available from the Companion or Web app. To view your current Cloud storage usage:

  • In the Companion App, go to Settings > General
  • In the Web App, the info is displayed on the home screen

You’ll see how much of your 1GB cloud storage is used and which file types are taking up the most space.

What happens if your Cloud storage is full?

When your 1 GB is full:

  • The most recently opened or edited files stay synced in the Cloud.
  • Older files are removed from the Cloud but remain safely stored on your Digital Paper.
  • Files added via USB only sync to the Cloud after being opened and edited.

Sync status

Your app will reflect the most up-to-date version of any document edited on your Digital Paper, as long as:

  • The device is connected to the internet
  • The Montblanc Cloud is actively synced

Check the Cloud icon on your device’s home screen to confirm sync activity.
