Screen technology (ghosting)

Screen technology (ghosting)

Montblanc Digital Paper features a specially coated surface that delivers a paper-like writing experience. The display utilizes electronic ink (E-Ink) technology, which mimics the appearance of printed paper while delivering energy-efficient performance.

How e-ink technology works

When electrical signals are applied to the screen, such as when using the Montblanc Digital Pen, ink particles move to the surface to form text and images. Unlike standard screens that require a backlight, the E Ink screen reflects light like real paper, making it easy to read even in bright sunlight. Once displayed, text or images remain visible without consuming additional power, helping to conserve battery life. The screen is designed to reduce eye strain, providing a comfortable reading and writing experience for extended periods.

Tip: The paper-like surface and reflective screen make it ideal for long reading sessions or detailed note-taking, even in direct sunlight.

Ghosting

Ghosting occurs when faint remnants of previous text or images remain visible on the screen, similar to the back of a written page. This is a normal behavior for E Ink displays. You might notice a brief flicker when changing pages or refreshing content; this is the screen clearing leftover ink to produce a crisp image. To manually clear ghosting, long-tap the top button on your Digital Pen for two seconds.

Tip: If you notice ghosting frequently, using the screen refresh feature regularly ensures a consistently clear display.
