Sometimes, your Montblanc Digital Pen may need to be replaced due to loss, damage, or malfunctions. Additionally, this process can serve as a troubleshooting method if your current pen is not connecting or pairing to your Digital Paper. Replacement pens are sold separately and can be purchased at Montblanc.com or in a Montblanc boutique.
Connecting your replacement pen
Once you have your replacement pen, you need to connect it to your device. If your old pen is still paired, you should disconnect it first. Both steps are performed through your device’s settings.
Tip: You can navigate Digital Paper using your finger to enter settings and initiate the re-pairing process.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Access Digital Pen settings
- Go to Settings → Digital Pen.
2. Disconnect the previous pen (if necessary)
- Tap Unpair Digital Pen to disconnect your old pen.
- Set aside the old pen for at least 10 minutes to ensure it is fully disconnected.

3. Pair the replacement pen
- Dock the replacement pen on the charger as indicated in your settings.
- Wait for the pairing process to complete.
- Once successful, your pen settings will appear on the device.
Tip: If the replacement pen is not pairing, leave it on the charger for 1–2 minutes to allow charging.
- Alternatively, press and hold the top button for 7 seconds until you feel a subtle vibration (if haptics are enabled) to enter pairing mode.
4. Restart your device
- Once paired, restart your Digital Paper to ensure all pen functionalities—including haptics and buttons—are fully operational.
Tip: After pairing, your pen is ready for writing immediately, but restarting ensures maximum stability and function.
Additional notes
- Always ensure the pen is charged before pairing.
- If pairing issues persist, check Bluetooth settings or consult Montblanc support.
- Using the 7-second top button method is a reliable way to force pairing mode if docking fails.
