Adding a passcode to your Montblanc Digital Paper helps keep your notes, documents, and ideas private and secure, even in the event of loss or theft.
Why passcode protection matters
Passcode protection:
- Prevents unauthorized access
- Adds a layer of privacy to your personal notes and documents
- Helps secure your data if the device is lost or stolen
We strongly recommend enabling a passcode to keep your device secure.
Note: A passcode ensures that only you can access your Digital Paper. Once enabled, the passcode is required each time the device is locked and unlocked.
Setting a passcode during onboarding
During onboarding, you’ll be prompted to create a four-digit numeric passcode. For privacy, your input will display as ****.
- After entering the passcode, tap Add password
- Re-enter the same passcode to confirm
- If both entries match, you’ll see a success message and continue onboarding
You can also choose to set up the passcode later in settings if you skip this step.
Note: The passcode is only activated once onboarding is complete. If you lock the device during setup, it will not yet require a code.
Managing your passcode in settings
Navigate to Settings > Security to view or change your passcode settings at any time.
Enable passcode
Tick the checkbox next to Unlock by passcode
Enter a four-digit code
Re-enter the code to confirm
Note: Once enabled, your device will require the passcode when it is locked.
Change your passcode
Tap Change passcode
Enter your current passcode
Enter and confirm your new code
Your updated passcode takes effect immediately.
Disable your passcode
Untick the checkbox for Unlock by passcode
Enter your current passcode to confirm
The device will no longer require a passcode to unlock.
Note: Numbers are always hidden as **** to protect your privacy. Be sure to choose a secure code that’s memorable but not easy to guess — avoid birthdays or simple number sequences.
What happens if you forget your password?
For security, we suggest creating a passcode that you can easily recall, but that is hard for others to reproduce. If you happen to forget your passcode, please get in touch with us. Keep in mind that resetting your device is necessary to regain access, and this will, unfortunately, result in data loss.
