While the Montblanc Digital Pen is the primary tool for writing, there are moments when typing is more practical. For example, when entering titles, searching within documents, or adding tags, the on-screen keyboard gives you a quick and reliable way to input text. It is designed to be simple, responsive, and adaptable to your preferred language and style.
Using the on-screen keyboard
The keyboard appears automatically whenever you tap on a field that accepts text. You can use it to type into titles, search bars, tags, and other editable areas across your device.

Switching languages
By default, the keyboard uses the language you selected during onboarding on your Digital Paper. However, you can easily change the keyboard language while using the device.
Here are the steps:
- Open the on-screen keyboard.
- Tap the
globe icon in the bottom-left corner. - Continue tapping until you reach the language you prefer.
Note: Changing the device language later does not automatically change the keyboard to that language. You need to manually select your desired keyboard language after setup.
Numbers and symbols
Sometimes, you’ll need more than letters. The keyboard includes quick access to numbers and basic symbols.
Steps to access them:
- Tap ?123 in the lower corner of the keyboard.
- To return to the alphabet, tap ABC.
Special characters
For accented letters and extra characters, you don’t need a separate keyboard. Many keys hold more options when pressed longer.
For example:
- Long-pressing “a” reveals à, á, â, and more.
- Long-pressing “o” reveals ö, ó, ô, etc.
Word suggestions
As you type, suggested words appear above the keyboard. Simply tap one to insert it into your text. Over time, the keyboard learns from your writing habits, making the suggestions increasingly accurate and relevant to your language use.
Hiding the keyboard
When you’re finished typing, you may want more screen space.
To hide the keyboard:
- Tap the downward-pointing arrow at the top of the keyboard.
- The keyboard disappears until the next time you tap on a text field.
