Importing and exporting files

Importing and exporting files

Digital Paper provides multiple ways to transfer files to and from your device, making file management flexible and convenient. You can transfer files via USB connection or using the Montblanc Cloud (refer to the cloud section for more details). USB transfer is especially useful for large files over 25 MB, which may be restricted when uploading or downloading via the cloud.

Connecting via USB

  1. Plug the USB-C cable into your Digital Paper and your computer.
  2. On the first connection, a dialog appears on the Digital Paper allowing you to choose:
    • Charge only: The device charges, but file import/export is disabled.
    • File transfer: Enables import and export of files.
Note: If file transfer isn’t enabled, go to Settings → General → File transfer via USB and toggle the option on.

Exporting files

  1. Long-tap the file(s) you wish to export from Digital Paper.
  2. Tap the Export icon in the bottom menu.
  3. On your computer, open the Montblanc Digital Paper folder, which contains two subfolders: Import and Export. Exported files appear in the Export folder.

Important notes:

  • You cannot export folders.
  • Notebooks, quick notes, and PDFs are exported as PDFs due to encryption.
  • Maximum export size at a time: 2 GB.
  • Once disconnected, the Export folder is cleared automatically. Move files to local storage before disconnecting.
  • Original notebook/quick note formats cannot be restored on another device—only PDF copies are available due to encryption.

Importing files

  1. Add PDF or eBook files to the Import folder that appears on your computer when the device is connected.
  2. Disconnect Digital Paper to automatically complete the import. Files are transferred to the device and deleted from the computer’s import folder.

Important notes:

  • Only PDF and eBook files can be imported.
  • Unsupported files are automatically deleted.
Tip: For faster and more convenient file management, you can also use the Montblanc Cloud to import/export files.
